David’s work took over his life and his health and body took a hit because of it.
Working away as a restructuring captain in different cities for months at a time meant living off hotel food and lacking a good workout routine.
He tried his best to stay fit, but ill-equipped gyms and convenience food took its toll.
He decided to bring his restructuring skills to his own life and walked into Ultimate Performance Manchester and signed up for a body transformation.
David started his U.P. sessions weighing 84.8kg, and at the end of his programme he was down to 77.5kg with his body fat dropping a third, to a remarkably lean 6.5%.
“Physically, I lost a load of body fat and put on muscle. So, U.P. delivered exactly what I wanted there. From a mental point of view, I have more confidence in general.”
“I had to change my wardrobe – new suit, new t-shirts, new shirts; everything! I am leaner than I have ever been and a lot broader.
“I am 39, and I am in the best shape I have been in my whole life.”
Before U.P., David felt like he was treading water with his fitness and just going through the motions at the gym.
Starting his transformation gave him purpose and a clear goal that really helped him up his game and take his fitness to the next level.
“I think previous training got me to a certain level of fitness. I would go to the gym with a bit of a plan of what exercises I would do, run through them and then go home. Then go again the next time with very similar expectations. There wasn’t a huge, massive improvement, just a general level of fitness.”
This ad hoc training proved useless when combined with his on-the-move lifestyle. David was no stranger to personal training, but a friend’s impressive results at U.P. pushed him to give it a chance.
“I came to London for about three months at the start of this year and just fell out of shape. I was spending a lot of time eating hotel food. Grubbing food on the go. I wanted to achieve a transformation like my friend’s.”
Well, David certainly got what he needed to dial up his fitness game at U.P. He received a personalised training and nutrition plan crafted around his goals and round-the-clock support from his trainer for maximum results.
“I have had personal trainers in the past, but U.P. has been much more structured. One of the things is how they keep in touch on a daily basis with the client – what weight they are at, what macros they have eaten, how many steps they have completed. So, you feel like they are completely involved in the transformation.
“Also, the intensity of training is on a completely different level compared to my previous trainers.”
David was already making a conscious effort to eat healthily – at least, as much as his nomadic lifestyle allowed – and started his U.P. journey more focused on training.
But he was surprised to see what a huge difference a good nutrition plan can make to training.
“I have always chosen chicken and veg off a menu and avoided chips and anything fried. But had no idea as to what macros were, how many grams I was eating. It would just be in my mind that it’s healthy, so it’s okay. But I had no idea about the actual healthiness of my diet.
“When I signed up, I wasn’t so focused on the diet and nutrition side, but since doing the transformation, it has become a part of my lifestyle. It’s much more ingrained in my day-to-day life.”
The results came thick and fast – David started seeing significant fat loss right after the first few weeks.
“I got the leanest 7 weeks into the transformation and managed to go on the photoshoot, and that was completely unexpected it and a good experience. I never thought I would get lean enough to get on to a photoshoot, which just goes on to show what you can achieve in a short period of time.”
And it’s not surprising that when your body becomes healthier, the impact is felt across all aspects of your daily life.
David came to U.P. looking for a quick fix to his fitness problems; what he got instead is knowledge to keep himself fit for the rest of his life.
With U.P. he is back in control of his body and health.
“I have much better knowledge of training – what to train, how to train, what to eat, when to eat, calories, macros, use of MyFitness Pal, etc. I feel more confident that I can go on and train for years with good knowledge and understanding of how to maintain this level of fitness.
“I didn’t expect to stay on, but it’s been such as good journey that I have signed up for another 12 weeks.”
